BMW Group Malaysia today stole the show at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023, showcasing a number of its latest offerings, including one that stole the show is Malaysia's first mobile electric car charger developed using recycled used electric car batteries.
Placed in a van, it uses batteries from recycled BMW and MINI electric cars. This prototype uses 16 units of reused battery modules - which have a battery health of around 70%.
The designed system has a capacity of 20kWh, and can offer up to 30kVA three-phase AC power. It includes a 30kW DC charger in the back of the van.
With the availability of mobile chargers or temporary powerbanks, they can be used to help electric cars that are lying on the side of the road. The electric vehicle can be charged a little, and then it can be driven to the nearest charging station.
In addition to cars, this offer can also be used to power up to eight houses in the disaster zone.
BMW presented their offer under the initiative to give the battery life and a second use - after it has reached the limit for use in electric vehicles.
