Bank Negara Malaysia is now informing users to be careful and alert with applications that use the name of Bank Negara Malaysia. BNM also informed that they do not have any mobile application at the moment.
Through the identified modus operandi, it was found that the victim was threatened by using a fake "Arrest Warrant" through the WhatsApp application, and then asked to download an APK file with the BNM logo. The APK file can steal data, passwords, including being used for various malicious purposes.
In parallel, BNM also advises not to download any files from unknown parties.
People are also often advised to only install official apps through the Google Play Store, and not to install any downloaded APKs.
