Coldplay The Most Environmentally Friendly, Here's The Proof

Finally Coldplay will be performing in Indonesia. The band from London, England will hold the "Music of the Spheres" tour at Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta on November 15, 2023. The fans are excited to welcome it. There is one thing that is missing and should be an example, namely how Coldplay tries to make its concerts environmentally friendly.

Coldplay is known to be very concerned about environmental and sustainable issues. That said, it was this environmental issue that made Coldplay reluctant to go to Indonesia a few years ago, because Indonesia was deemed not serious about tackling environmental problems, such as deforestation.

The band, which consists of Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, Will Champion, and Phil Harvey, is known to actively voice the importance of preventing the climate crisis through mitigation.

In 2019, they shocked the public by suspending their tour. Coldplay announced that they will not be holding a world tour until they figure out how to make concerts eco-friendly and sustainable.

In 2022, Coldplay announced the news that they would be holding concerts again in various countries and promised that their concerts would carry an environmentally friendly concept.

"We are very aware that this planet is experiencing a climate crisis, this is one of our efforts, although it is not perfect, we are committed," said Coldplay's statement at the time.

Now in 2022-2023, Coldplay is back with a number of their planned and detailed sustainability initiatives. Their various initiatives can be seen on the official website at https://sustainability.coldplay.com/.

Chris Martin and his team enforced three principles of sustainability on the 'Music of The Spheres' tour:

Reduce (reduce) by cutting CO2 emissions by up to 50% compared to the 2016-2017 concert

Reinvent (create), which fully supports new technologies based on green energy

Restore, by financing environmental projects that can restore the carbon footprint generated during the tour, including tree planting and maintenance for a lifetime with 1 ticket = 1 tree.

For your information, they are also donors to environmental organizations such as the Rainforest Foundation and Global Citizen. In the concert, Coldplay promised to use as much as possible new renewable energy or more friendly energy such as solar, biofuel and kinetic to avoid fossil energy.

Coldplay packaged this eco-friendly initiative in an interesting way, including using a kinetic dance floor, a stage floor that can generate energy from the movement of its personnel.

At several venues in the concert stadium, Coldplay also installed electric energy-producing static bicycles that help provide electric power for the show. A number of fans were also invited to this activity so they felt directly involved in supporting their idol's sustainability mission.

Quoting the Coldplay Sustainability site, a number of Coldplay's other environmentally friendly initiatives are explained, namely:

Using low carbon and reusable stage materials

Organic waste during the tour will be recycled by providing places to put recyclable waste

The luminous LED wristbands worn by the audience are also 100% compostable or completely biodegradable because they are made from plant-based materials.

Spectators are advised to bring drinking bottles to reduce waste

Using concert confetti that is 100% biodegradable, aka biodegradable

Apart from supporting tree planting, Coldplay's concert tour also supports various awareness movements and cleaning up trash in the sea.

Well, Coldplay gives an example that sustainable living cannot be perfect right away. But we can contribute to saving the Earth by just starting from what we can do. How? Coldplay fans love this band even more, don't they?
