Asia has been hit by hot weather for the last few weeks. Even recorded the highest record in April which resulted in the closure of schools in a number of countries.
Meteorologists have tracked temperatures as high as 45 degrees Celsius in India, Thailand and Myanmar. While 42 to 43 degrees Celsius in Bangladesh, Laos, Vietnam, Nepal and China.
It is astonishing that temperatures are as high as most of the country has not experienced in decades. For example, in Bangkok, Thailand, it is common for hot weather to occur in April, but only in the range of 30-37 degrees Celsius.
"There are endless record heats in Southeast Asia, with weeks of record heat falling each day," Herrera said, he was quoted as saying by the Guardian.
Hot weather effects. Thai authorities are advising people in Bangkok and other areas to stay home to avoid getting sick. The temperature reached 42 Celsius in the capital on Saturday (23/4/2023), and the heat index reached 54 Celsius.
Luckily last Wednesday's rains in Bangkok eased the heat, and authorities say they believe the heat has reached its peak.
Even so many are still crashing hot weather at this time. Residents turn on air conditioners and electric fans non-stop to keep cool. Inevitably electricity consumption scored the highest record in a number of countries.
Globally, 2022 ranks as one of the hottest years on record, and the last eight years are collectively the warmest years documented by modern science. It is believed that the return of the El Niño weather phenomenon this year will cause temperatures to increase even more.
"The poorest of the poor will [suffer] the most. In particular, it is destroying farming communities, people who depend on agriculture or fishing," said Dr Fahad Saeed, regional leader for South Asia and the Middle East at Climate Analytics, an institute climate science policy.
