Emirates Passengers Can Now Check-in Using Self-driving Robots

When arriving at the airport, it is customary to go through the check-in process for identity verification and place the luggage in the cargo hold of the plane. This process takes a long time so passengers are advised to arrive early before the departure time. Emirates introduced a self-driving robot named Sara to facilitate the check-in process of passengers in Dubai.

Sara is a robot that moves automatically. It allows passengers to check-in for flights up to 24 hours in advance or up to 4 hours before departure at the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC). Luggage can also be handed over 24 hours in advance. Passengers then only need to bring themselves when they arrive at the airport because the registration process has been done earlier.

In addition to registration, Sara can also be used to purchase tickets or shop for items needed before arriving at the airport. Sara has been operating since April 27, making it the first passenger registration system using a self-driving robot in the world.
