The counterfeit product market reaches hundreds of billions of Ringgit a year. Once upon a time counterfeit products were easy to spot because they were sold at cheap prices in unofficial shops. In Malaysia, Petaling Street is synonymous with fake products, so much so that it is the focus of tourists who are looking for non-original products. The problem now is that counterfeit products are sold as genuine products which clearly deceives customers.
FeaturePrint is an application that can detect a counterfeit product with just a picture. This application uses artificial intelligence to detect the difference between genuine and fake products. The bar code, QR and serial number system that is used now is not sufficient because the seller can hide it from the picture of the product being sold.
At this time FeaturePrint has not been offered to the public by its developer Alitheon. They want to market products to industrial customers who want to ensure original components in the supply chain, and luxury goods.
