Find My Device Updated With Offline Device Detection And Audio Accessory Tracking

Find My Device is now more similar to Apple's Find My feature through several updates announced at Google I/O this morning. First of all, billions of Android devices will become nearby Android device detection nodes via a low-power bluetooth system. When near a lost Android device even offline, its location can be tracked by Find My Device. This feature has been requested by Android users since it was introduced on Apple Find My.

In addition to Android smart devices, Find My Device also supports object tracking devices from Tile, Chipolo, and Pebblebee. Pixel Buds earphone mockups, as well as Sony and JBL audio accessories are also possible later. There is an option to ring a lost headphone as well as a notification of how close the owner is to it in Find My Device.

Google has again confirmed that the new Find My Device will have the ability to alert if it detects an object tracking device such as Apple's AirTag near the user. Google and Apple are working together to solve the issue of object trackers being misused for criminal purposes.

According to Google, this more powerful Find My Device will be available in the fall. Most likely at the next Pixel launch event as well as the official announcement of Android 14.
