Google Ends Support for First Generation Chromecast

Google Chromecast is an HDMI dongle that turns a dumb television into a smart television. Only with Chromecast the basic function is given which is to broadcast content from the user's smartphone to the TV screen.

The first Chromecast was launched in 2013 and was also sold in Malaysia. Now after 10 years finally Google announced that they will end support for the first generation Chromecast. This means no more software updates will be provided and no more customer support.

Google states that this Chromecast can still be used, but there is a potential decrease in performance from time to time that will be experienced. Chromecast technology is also now built into many televisions and TV boxes so this dongle is no longer needed unless you are still using a dumb television.

We use dongles like Chromecast with Google TV and the Mecool KM7 Plus TV box which is not only equipped with Chromecast but a good operating system.
