The CEO of IBM has now stated that IBM will stop hiring employees for tasks or positions that can be replaced by the use of artificial intelligence. This step will be implemented in stages in the coming years.
Tasks that are expected to be affected are tasks involving management and office operations - such as for the human resources department.
IBM today has about 26,000 non-customer-facing employees, and IBM's CEO aims for about 30% of those jobs to be replaced by AI and automation within the next five years.
IBM's move and partnership is seen as a start before automation and replacement are done by other organizations and firms.
Today itself, through the use of offerings such as ChatGPT and others, tasks such as writing letters, customer service assistance, as well as several other tasks can be done quickly and also automatically.
Since the beginning of 2023 as well, a number of technology companies have thrown out some employees in the company - mainly involving middle management.
