Now, through the new development version of WhatsApp, it is seen that the most popular messaging service in the world will implement the use of usernames.
For now, it is not fully known what the purpose of the username is. However, if it follows another messaging platform, it will be a unique ID for a user, and used in searching or to connect.
With this step, WhatsApp may replace the use of phone numbers, while providing more privacy to users - especially in WhatsApp Groups or WhatsApp Communities, in addition to the upcoming WhatsApp Channel.
The development of this new feature is seen to have been integrated into the development version of WhatsApp, and it is not yet known when it will be officially available.
