Like returning hard fruit nails to the United States, China has now banned the use of memory chips produced by Micron Technology from important infrastructure projects in the country. After Micron was investigated by the Chinese authorities, they claimed that their products did not pass the required security standards.
In a statement, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) said: "The review found that Micron products have serious network security risks, which pose a significant security risk to China's critical information infrastructure supply chain, affecting China's national security."
The action taken by China is China's first retaliatory fire against the United States which imposed technological barriers on products manufactured by Huawei, ZTE and DJI in their country for the same reason.
Micron issued a statement to continue discussions with Chinese authorities. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Commerce said China's ban was unfounded. With Micron's memory chips already banned, it's good news for Samsung and SK Hynic to fill the void now existing in China.
