Microsoft Will Use Nuclear Fusion's Clean Energy Source By 2028

Last year nuclear fusion was successfully performed at the National Ignition Facility (NIF) by scientists from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. It is the first time that nuclear fusion has been carried out outside of a nuclear explosion. This success will open the door to a clean and sustainable energy source because it only produces helium and neutrons as by-products without radioactive waste.

Helion Energy, a company from the United States announced that they signed an agreement with Microsoft to supply clean electricity from nuclear fusion as early as 2028.

When operational later, as much as 50 MW of electricity can be generated through the system developed by Helion. Helion has a high belief that systems that use plasma that reaches a temperature of 100 million degrees Celsius can generate electricity by 2024. Microsoft, on the other hand, hopes that nuclear fusion energy source technology can realize their target of having a carbon negative operation by 2030.
