This week is the week of the Computex 2023 event and many interesting things have been announced such as MediaTek chips will use NVIDIA GPUs and ARM introduced the ARMv9.2 family of CPUs and GPUs which are interesting for smartphone users.
MediaTek on the same day also announced that their next processing chip will use technology from ARM. Through their official Weibo page, MediaTek said that this new chip will take advantage of the Cortex-X4 CPU, Cortex-A720 CPU and Immortalis-G720 GPU.
This chip is expected to be the Dimensity 9300 which will compete with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. With the Cortex-X4 CPU it provides a performance increase of up to 15% and energy savings of up to 40%. Meanwhile Cortex-A720 offers power savings of up to 20% while Cortex-A520 offers savings of up to 22%. Meanwhile, the Immortalis-G720 GPU is said to have at least 10 cores with a performance increase of up to 15%.
More interesting is the core cluster configuration of 1+5+2 (Cortex-X4, Cortex-A720 and Cortex A520) on this year's flagship SOC compared to 1+4+3 on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for example. This chip also only supports 64-bit systems and no longer supports 32-bit systems which will no longer be supported by the Android operating system.
It is most likely to be launched in the second half of 2023 as this is what MediaTek always does for the SoC used by early 2024 devices.
