Apple will launch their augmented reality (AR) headset in just a few weeks. But in the two ARs, Nreal is a company that has launched their products like Air for the past few years with it being directly usable on a smartphone. Nreal has now rebranded themselves as Xreal. At the same time two new Xreal Beam products that provide spatial display capabilities on AR glasses.
The Xreal Beam looks like an iPod with a USB-C output for the Xreal Air glasses. With Beam, Air has true spatial display capabilities. Say the Air is used to watch a video on a 140-inch virtual screen, the wearer's movements are detected in 6 DoF. With this when they move forward, the giant virtual screen will get closer and vice versa if they move backwards.
According to Xreal, Beam enables spatial display to also be supported on consoles such as the Nintendo Switch. Spatial display support can also be done wirelessly. Each Beam can operate for four hours before needing to be charged. The sale price has not yet been announced.
