Portugal Moves Closer to Banning Huawei's 5G and 4G Equipment

Portugal's Cyber Security Council (CSSC) has issued a resolution banning the use of telecommunications equipment from countries that pose a high risk to national security. Although this directive does not name any company, it indirectly bans Huawei telecommunications equipment from being used in Portugal.

Huawei is trying to get a contract to supply their 5G equipment in Portugal. This CSSC directive buried that dream. More serious for Huawei is that their 4G equipment will also be banned causing the contract with the Portuguese telecommunications company to not continue.

In Europe there are countries like France that ban Huawei equipment and some are still comfortable using it like in Germany. This is one of the reasons why Huawei moved their headquarters from Belgium to Germany last year.
