Qualcomm Takes Over Autotalks That Makes Vehicle Security Chips

Qualcomm announced this morning that they will take over the Autotalks firm that produces security chips for various types of vehicles. The V2X system developed by Autotalks can detect hazards from blind spots on vehicles such as bicycles, motorcycles and cars. To acquire this Israeli firm, Qualcomm is believed to be paying between $350-400 million.

V2X chip and sensor technology will be integrated by Qualcomm into the Snapdragon Digital Chassis ecosystem marketed by them to several customers such as Afeela which is the electric vehicle business of Sony Honda Mobility. In addition to detecting vehicles that are in the blind spot, V2X can also communicate with other vehicles with the same system to prevent traffic accidents from occurring.

With electric cars becoming more popular and customers wanting smartphone-like capabilities on vehicle infotainment systems, Qualcomm Digital Chassis has an advantage because of its long experience offering chips for smart devices.
