Samsung's Smartphone Market Share In Q1 2023 Is Only 1% Greater Than Apple's

The production of smartphones in 2023 still shows a downward trend due to economic factors that have not yet recovered from Covid. All global smartphone manufacturers are affected due to lack of demand in the market. According to Counterpoint's latest report, in Q1 2023 Samsung is still the smartphone manufacturer with the largest market share but is getting close to being overtaken by Apple.

Samsung produced 60.6 million smartphones followed by Apple (58 million), Xiaomi (30.5%), Oppo (28 million) and Vivo (20.8 million). The difference in smartphone production between Samsung and Apple is only 1%. When compared to the same quarter last year, Samsung recorded a production decline of -19% which is also the second worst after Xiaomi which shrank by -22%.

Overall smartphone production in Q1 2023 was down 14% compared to Q1 2022. Counterpoint's report is in line with Canalys' previous report which also pointed to Samsung in first place but closely followed by Apple.
