Saturn Is Now The Planet With The Most Moons In The Solar System

Earth has only one moon but the other planets in the solar system usually have more. So far, the status of the planet with the largest number of non-planets is held by Jupiter with 95 months in total. But astronomers have now confirmed the status is now changing hands to Saturn.

The International Astronomical Union announced Saturn officially has 145 moons in total after 62 new moons were recently discovered. The process of identifying Saturn's new moons takes several years because of the difficulty of tracking them all.

Scientists hypothesize that a planet 10 times larger than Earth has many moons because the larger moon has already broken up. Although just bypassed, Jupiter may soon regain status from Saturn as a new search for the planet is underway.
