This week Gboard finally activated split key support on Android foldable screen tablets and phones. The update is done silently but the feature was spotted by the site 9to5Google. Previously, the split key that facilitates the typing process could only be used on Galaxy Fold and Surface Duo devices.
The update was given simultaneously with the launch of the Google Pixel Fold which can also use this keyboard. To use it please update Gboad to the latest version. On tablets and foldable screen devices, there is an icon to split the key in two on Gboard. To return to the connected keyboard, press the same icon again.
Like the regular Gboard keyboard, the key design and customization can be done by the user to make the use more comfortable according to the needs.
