On the battlefield surgery must be done immediately to save lives. But in a war situation, sending an injured member to the hospital is not always possible and sometimes the hospital in the field does not have enough operating rooms.
The SurgiField system is a compact mobile operating room developed by SurgiBox a subsidiary of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). With it emergency surgery can be done anywhere. It consists of a SurgiBubble which is a mini operating room that ensures a sterile space when surgery is performed.
The air in the SurgiBubble room is filtered using a HEPA filter to ensure that no impurities can enter the part of the body being operated on. So far SurgiField has been donated for field use in Ukraine and it has successfully saved 31 lives. SurgiBox is now planning to donate it to Doctors Without Borders for their use.
