Truecaller Will Start Filtering Spam Calls On WhatsApp

Last week it went viral on social media that users received a voice call via WhatsApp that only rang once. It has been done many times with callers using profile pictures of beautiful women. There is a theory that spam voice calls are the latest tactic of online scams. This new tactic will soon be buried as Truecaller announced their system will be supported in WhatsApp to filter unknown calls.

This spam call filtering support is currently being tested in Beta with the goal of rolling it out to global users before the end of the month. Truecaller will not only support WhatsApp but messaging apps with primary voice calling.

Truecaller says they currently have 350 million users worldwide of which 250 million are residents of India. The move to filter spam calls on WhatsApp was taken by Truecaller after receiving complaints of an increase in the number of unwanted calls in India over the past two weeks.
