Immersion is a technology company famous enough to own vibration technology patents used by other technology companies such as Google, Motorola and Fitibit who have either been sued, or paid to use those patents in their devices and accessories.
It seems that Valve has become Immersion's latest victim, where it has been reported that Immersion has sued Valve for the use of their vibration technology patents on Steam Deck devices, Valve Index and SteamVR software without compensation.
Valve isn't the first company to have to deal with this Immersion scam. In fact, Google, Motorola, Fitbit, and even Nintendo are also seen paying compensation for vibration technology patents and control devices for permission to use them. Sony is also seen paying to use the Immersion patent in their DualSense controller.
In fact, Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch that use Linear Resonant Actuator (LRA) technology, and Valve are expected to pay the requested compensation, and will pay to use Immersion's company patents.
