Many were outraged when we reported YouTube was starting to block videos from playing if it detected viewers using ad blockers. Then anger boiled over after YouTube Premium Family subscription prices were raised in Malaysia this June. At the YouTube Brandcast event today they announced two more new ad formats.
The first is that ads are displayed when a streaming video is paused. This way advertisers can still sell their products even if the video is not playing. This feature is still in testing.
Next is the introduction of a 30-second ad that viewers can't skip. Both of these formats will only be displayed on video TV channels that users watch in the United States only at this time. In the United States, YouTube is used by 150 million TV viewers on a monthly basis.
YouTube also announced that artificial intelligence (AI) is already being used by clients to insert appropriate audio into their ads. Sony Electronics is among the customers who are already using this feature.
