Apple macOS Sonoma Announced – Includes Desktop Widget Support

At the WWDC 2023 event, various software updates were announced, not least for the computer's operating system, macOS. The next version of macOS, i.e. macOS 14, is known by the code name "Sonoma".

macOS 14 comes with a number of updates, one of which is support for widgets. Now, you can add widgets to the desktop, making it easy to access information quickly – including interacting with it without having to open a full app for it.

Users can also pin a website for use as an application on the desktop – much like on mobile devices today.

In addition, macOS 14 also adds a new mode called Game Mode, which optimizes usage by reducing notifications and focusing on video games.

Apple also added profile support to Safari, and included some special features in video calls and for virtual presentations.

The macOS 14 Sonoma update will be offered for free to Mac users in a few months.
