Apple watchOS 10 Also Announced With Widget Support, Name Drop And New Watch Faces

People's attention this morning is definitely focused on the Vision Pro, a truly impressive AR headset. However, other announcements should not be forgotten because they are no less interesting. Apple shared various new features introduced in watchOS 10 for Apple Watch.

Starting with a few more new watch faces that allow the Apple Watch to be further personalized with the wearer's identity. The face of the watch has more complications for the display of more detailed information as well as some themed around the comic character Snoopy.

Smart Stack is a feature that allows various important widgets to be scrolled using the Digital Crown button. Quick information about the weather, football match scores, day trip sites and daily agenda can be seen in a flash as the widgets are layered and switched using the dial on the side of the watch.

Control Center can be accessed by pressing the side button. After use press the side button twice to close it. The Name Drop feature facilitates the sharing of personal information with other Apple ecosystem users. Just need to bring the Apple Watch close to the iPhone to exchange phone numbers for example.

The mapping system is also improved with the Apple Watch being able to drop the last location mark of a cellular connection to be detected. With this if Apple Watch wearers need to do a cellular connection, they can return to this location using the built-in map. Cycling activity tracking has also been improved to see cycling power and routes more clearly.

Apple Watch can also be used to fight myopia in children. In collaboration with the International Myopia Institute, children with Apple Watch will be monitored when they are outside. Children are advised to spend up to two hours a day outside to prevent the eyes from becoming myopic. The Apple Watch will track time spent and record this data into the parent or guardian's Health app.

watchOS 10 is currently being offered to developers for closed Beta testing and will only be available to the public with Apple Watch 4 and up by the end of 2023.
