Big Sky Camera Equipped With 316MP Sensor For 18K Video Recording

The largest sensor on a smartphone right now is the 200MP one manufactured by Samsung. Despite its large megapixel size, the physical size of the ISOCELL HP2 sensor is only 1/1.3″. Still Big Sky has launched a camera equipped with a 316MP sensor larger than 3″ capable of recording video up to 18K.

The camera shoots video at 18K x 18K resolution in a square aspect ratio at 60FPS HDR 12 bit settings. Because the recording is done at a very high resolution, it produces data at a rate of 400 gbps. Therefore it uses special storage with a capacity of 32TB which allows recording for 17 minutes to be done.

A square sensor of 77.5 x 75.6 mm (3 x 3″) is used to allow high-resolution video to be taken. The highest visual setting is required as it will be projected at The Sphere building in Las Vegas which is a sphere equipped with 580,000 square feet of LED panels on the outside and 160,000 square feet on the inside.

When inside The Sphere, the audience can enjoy the experience of being in another world. To make this experience realistic, high-resolution visuals are necessary. As well as being the world's largest visual stage, The Sphere will also be used as a concert hall with U2 being the first band to perform in it next September.
