Intel Discontinues Use of "i" Brand on Processing Chips, Adds "Intel Core Ultra" Family

Intel today announced an update to the branding for their manufactured processing chips. This new branding will take effect starting from the new generation of processing chips, Meteor Lake.

Under the new branding, Intel will no longer include the use of the letter "i" before the chip model number. For example, previously, processing chips were known as Intel Core i3/i5/i7/i9. But, with this new branding, the chips will only be known as Intel Core 3/5/7/9.

In addition, Intel also comes with a new branding for high-powered chips, where it will include the prefix "Ultra" - making it known by a name for example, Intel Core Ultra 9.

Intel will also no longer use the word "Generations" in the branding of their processing chips, but says it will include the processing number at the end of the chip name.

With this new branding, it is expected to make the product selection process easier for consumers in the future.
