Intel Ends Production of Tiger Lake Processing Chips And 500-Series Graphics Chips

Intel will usually end production of their old series of processing chips when new and existing technologies have entered the mature phase and are widely used. Now it seems that it is the turn of their 11th generation processing chip series, or Tiger Lake, to be discontinued.

Launched in 2020, the Tiger Lake processor chip series is the first processor chip to introduce the Intel Xe graphics chip into the Intel laptop series, which is seen to come with better performance and efficiency compared to previous offerings.

Previously, Intel has ended production for a number of Tiger Lake chip models, including Tiger Lake-B for small-sized desktop computers and Tiger Lake-H for mid-range performance laptops and also Xeon-W class processing chips.

Starting this week, Intel has reportedly stopped production for the rest of its Tiger Lake series of processor chips, including Tiger Lake-U and Tiger Lake-Y for thin and light laptops. Intel is also seen to be discontinuing the production of Intel 500-series chipsets, which includes the HM570, WM590, and QM580 class motherboards. The deadline for purchasing this chipset is set for October 27.

Existing products using the 11th generation Intel processing chips are seen to be sold again in the market, but it is expected that no new products using the processing chips will be sold after this.
