iPhone Can Be Made into a 360 Degree Smart Camera

When iOS 17 was announced at the WWDC 2023 event, Apple included many interesting features on the iPhone. What I can't wait to try is the StandBy feature that turns the iPhone into a smart screen like the Google Nest Hub. It is a special mode when charging that displays the time or a widget in the form of a full screen, as well as on a horizontal display.

Not only that, Apple's demonstration also showed the iPhone placed in a special stand with a MagSafe-like connection. Through the Apple Developer site, the iPhone can be turned into a 360-degree camera when placed in a rotating motorized tripod.

Through DockKit integration (a smart feature that detects when an iPhone is held), the motorized gimbal can receive commands from the Camera API's subject tracking data. As the subject moves, this is tracked by the camera which then controls the movement of the motorized gimbal to ensure the subject is always in the center of the video frame.

According to Apple this feature is not limited to the iPhone camera app but any app that supports the Camera API such as Filmic Pro. Among the usage scenarios are teleconferencing sessions, presentations, education, live streaming, sporting events, medicine and more.
