When the iPhone 13 was launched, Apple introduced the Cinematic Mode video recording feature. So far this video can only be edited with Apple Photos, iMovies or Final Cut Pro applications. As of iOS 17 and macOS Sonoma, Apple finally allows users to edit cinematic videos shot with the iPhone using third-party editing apps.
Developers of third-party editing applications only need to integrate the Cinematic API introduced by Apple. Without this API third party apps will only detect normal videos without bokeh effect in the background.
This API is not limited to editing applications only and can also be integrated into social media applications such as Instagram for example. It should be noted that cinematic mode recording still needs to be done with the iOS camera app as it is not supported on third-party camera apps yet for now.
