Mark Zuckerberg Makes Meta WFO Employees 3 Times A Week

Meta announced that it will implement a hybrid work system and require employees to enter the office three times a week. This policy will take effect on September 5.

This hybrid work policy is applied to make work more efficient. But employees who have taken a remote position are exempt from the hybrid work requirements.

"We are committed to distributing work, and we believe that people can make a meaningful impact both from the office and from home," said a spokesperson for Meta, as quoted from Gizmodo, Monday (5/6/2023).

"We are also committed to continuing to refine our model to foster the collaboration, relationships, and culture needed for employees to do their best work," he continued.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has indicated the transition of the work from home (WFH) policy to a hybrid over the past few months. In a blog post in March, Zuckerberg said internal analysis showed engineers who worked in the office had better performance.

"This needs to be studied further, but our hypothesis is that it is still easier to build trust if we meet face-to-face and that relationship helps us work more effectively," said Zuckerberg.

Meta first implemented a full WFH policy in May 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The policy was extended to all permanent employees in June 2021. At the time Zuckerberg said the company saw that good work can be done anywhere.

Meta is following in the footsteps of several other technology companies that began requiring employees to return to the office for several days a week starting this year.

Previously, Big Tech companies such as Amazon, Apple, Microsoft and Alphabet announced that they would withdraw the WFH policy and require employees to go to the office at least three days a week.
