Microsoft Finally Admits Xbox Is Losing To Sony And Nintendo In The Console War

Microsoft has not officially shared Xbox Series S/X sales figures. But so far it is estimated to have sold around 19 million units compared to the PlayStation 5 which has officially sold almost 39 million units. According to a report from IGN this morning, Microsoft has finally admitted they lost the console war with Sony and Nintendo in documents filed in a court case against the FTC that blocked the purchase of Activision Blizzard.

The document states Xbox is in third place with 16% of the console market compared to Sony and Nintendo. Sony and Nintendo's percentage stakes have already been wiped out. In terms of revenue generation, once again Xbox is in third place with 21% market share.

Microsoft hopes that this disclosure will help them win the case because with them in third place, the accusation that they want to monopolize the market through the purchase of Activision Blizzard is unfounded. The FTC could use the same document as evidence that Activision Blizzard's purchase will allow Microsoft to dominate the world of video games by preventing games from being offered on competing platforms.
