Microsoft Tests File Explorer With Focus On Cloud Storage

The file manager on Windows 11 is File Explorer. Microsoft has made changes by adding tabs for users to be more manageable when completing tasks. Recently a newer File Explorer with a focus on cloud storage was introduced to Windows Insider users.

The File Explorer home page can now suggest files that users want to access in the form of larger thumbnail image displays. In addition, a list of files that have been accessed and favorite files will also be displayed on this page.

Most interesting is the OneDrive integration where the File Explorer address bar can intelligently identify files in the computer and files in the cloud. Not only that, when the user accesses a file in the cloud storage, the address bar can display the status that it is being backed up as well as the user's storage quota.

For now this feature is still in testing stage for Windows Insider users. It may take several months before the final stable version is released to all users.
