The movie Robocop is a science fiction about the use of robots to fight criminals in Detroit. It is a parody of human dependence on technology in the 80s and is seen as the antithesis of Terminator. Science fiction Robocop is now a reality not in the United States in our neighboring country Singapore.
The Singapore Police Force introduced the use of wheeled robots at Terminal 4 of Changi Airport. This 1.7 meter high robot is used to patrol and monitor security at the airport which has been crowned as the best in the world. It is equipped with a 360-degree camera placed on a pole that can be raised to a height of over two meters.
There is a siren system, an LCD screen to display information, a touch screen for the public to report incidents, a speaker system to inform the public and lights. Two robots are now operating in Changi to help human police maintain order.
Singapore has used several robots before for the same purpose. During the pandemic the Spot robot by Boston Dyanamic was used to ensure social distancing was followed. Robots are also used in Changi for the purpose of cleaning and pulling passengers' luggage from the plane.
