The 5G network in Malaysia has been introduced since 2021, and now covers almost 60% of the populated areas in Malaysia. However, according to the statistics shared by SKMM, it shows that the rate of 5G usage is still low in Malaysia.
According to the data shared, only around 1.2 million users are using the 5G network, which is around 3.1% of users.
Various telecommunications companies have started offering 5G networks to consumers through a number of dedicated passes and plans – except for Maxis. However, it is seen that there are still many people who do not use it anymore, even though the devices already support it.
The reason behind it is not stated, but it is expected to continue to increase day by day, including with the offering of various devices at lower prices. The government is ready to target the 5G network in Malaysia to reach an 80% coverage rate under DNB by the end of 2023, before the second entity for the 5G dual network model is introduced in early 2024.
