The job apocalypse in the tech world is far from over with Spotify recently laying off around 200 staff from their podcast division. This was done after Parcast and Gimlet were acquired by Spotify and merged into Spotify Studios. This is equivalent to 2% of Spotify's total staff.
The workforce reductions are ongoing even though Spotify is now the world's number one podcast platform with 100 million monthly listeners. In total there are over 5 million podcast episodes available to stream on the platform compared to just 200,000 when it was first offered in 2019.
