The country's second 5G network will start operating next year after being an alternative to the current Digital Nasional Berhad network. After it was announced, there were reports that Malaysia received warnings from the European Union (EU) and the United States about the risks of using Huawei's 5G equipment on this second network. In an interview with Bloomberg, Digital Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the government will not prevent the use of Huawei's 5G equipment in Malaysia.
Fadzil added, the government allows telecommunications companies to choose which company's equipment they want to use. The government will also not enter into any contract with any network equipment supplier. However, the government will take into account the concerns expressed by some Western countries about the possible use of Huawei equipment.
5G equipment has already been banned in the United States, Canada, Australia, the UK, Japan, and soon in Portugal due to the risk of spying by China. This is seen as an effort by an ally of the United States that wants to prevent technological progress from China. In response, China banned Micron chips from government equipment on the grounds that they posed a risk to national security
