TSMC Begins Test Phase For Chip Production Using 2nm Process

TSMC is a very important semiconductor chip maker, where their customers include leading technology companies that design their own chips, such as Apple, AMD, NVIDIA, Qualcomm and so on.

The company has reported that they have already started the pre-production phase for processing chips built using this 2nm process. The test began at TSMC's factory in Baoshan, Taiwan and it is expected to produce as many as 1000 wafers this year.

The initial production phase will start in 2024, while full production is expected to happen in 2025. As usual, TSMC's two biggest customers are seen to be Apple and also NVIDIA which as usual is the first and biggest customer for TSMC who also requests the largest number of chips when the 2nm process this is fully functional later.

More interestingly, TSMC will use artificial intelligence for the purpose of optimizing the process of manufacturing this processing chip, especially in terms of power consumption and wafer design which is said to be 30 times more efficient than previous processes with a technology called AutoDMP developed in collaboration with NVIDIA.

This means that the latest processing chips released by Apple and NVIDIA using the 2nm process are expected to be present in 2025 during their respective launch events.
