We Tried U Mobile's 5G Prepaid And Postpaid Plans – More Value, Flexibility And Value

Today's technology is getting more and more sophisticated, and with today's 5G network, it makes the process of doing tasks, communicating and entertaining, smoother and faster. However, for now there are some of us who have not been able to fully experience the convenience of 5G, due to areas that do not support this network or 5G internet plans that are too expensive. He said, U Mobile offers a plan that is worth subscribing to because they offer free 5G network access. So, we recently tried out their prepaid and postpaid internet plans, and here's our experience using them.

U Mobile Internet Plan Usage Experience

For your information, the 5G network offered by all telecommunication companies is the same, since they use the network provided by Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB). Therefore, the quality and performance of the internet you feel while using 5G is the same, regardless of what type of telecommunications line you use. However, what differentiates U Mobile from its competitors is their offering which is seen as more worthwhile and without additional charges. So, we chose several locations around Kuala Lumpur such as Taman Tugu, Suria KLCC, Taman KLCC and Berjaya Times Square to test U Mobile's ability to offer their 5G network to users.

The device we used in this test was the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, paired with the U Postpaid 38 and Prepaid U40 plans. We also take advantage of several Internet speed test operator platforms such as Fast.com and Ookla for internet speed checks. We took into account several aspects in conducting this test such as the speed of downloading and uploading files, the smoothness of first play, the smoothness of communication, and the hotspot connection. For each download and upload test, we used a 5-minute video file of 35.8MB, while to test the smoothness of the internet when playing the game, we used the PUBG Mobile game.

Our research findings show that the Prepaid U40 plan works well around the area we tested. As for readings on Fast.com, it shows an average speed of up to 470Mbps. Meanwhile, readings on Ookla showed an average speed of up to 531.45Mbps. With this unlimited quota of 6Mbps speed, we can download a file of 35.8MB in the fastest time around 4.92 seconds. Then, we upload the same file into Google Drive, which takes about 20 seconds at the fastest. We also tried uploading files while activating the hotspot, and the resulting speed was as fast as 8.79 seconds. The first play also feels smooth, with a ping rate as low as 20ms. Just so you know, a good ping rate when playing first should be less than 50ms. Voice calls also sound clear with no stuttering issues.

The test results are also seen as good and satisfactory for the U Postpaid 38 plan. The reading from Fast.com recorded an internet speed of up to 310Mbps, while the Ookla reading was up to 500.02Mbps. The download speed of a 35.8MB file is as fast as 3.73 seconds, while the process of uploading a file takes up to 18.55 seconds. The fluency of communicating and playing PUBG Mobile first is also the same as what is felt when using the Prepaid U40 plan, with a ping rate as low as 20ms.

If you also want to experience the internet like we did, you can try the internet plans under U Mobile - Prepaid and U Postpaid.

Prepaid Plans

If you are someone who likes to plan your finances before spending and want flexibility in subscribing to an internet plan, Prepaid prepaid plans are the right choice. This is because through the Prepaid plan, you are given three choices of plans that suit your use and budget – U25, U35 and U40. If you want a more affordable plan, you can subscribe to the U25 prepaid plan. Through this plan too, you can redeem Speed Booster through the MyUMobile application to enjoy internet with free 4G/5G speed for one hour every day.

What if you want unlimited internet access that is more affordable? Then the answer is in the Prepaid U35 or U40 plan. Both plans offer unlimited data quota, with speeds of up to 6Mbps without any limits on data usage and voice calls. You can also enjoy unlimited 4G/5G internet quota with ultra-fast speeds on weekends by redeeming Unlimited 5G Weekend on the MyUMobile app. However, what differentiates these two packages is the mobile hotspot quota, where Prepaid U40 offers unlimited hotspot quota. Even so, U25 and U35 plan users can still enjoy unlimited hotspots by purchasing an additional RM5/month pass through the MyUMobile application.

U Postpaid Postpaid Plan

In addition to prepaid plans, U Mobile also provides U Postpaid postpaid plans. This plan is suitable for those who do not want the headache of topping up every time the quota is used up, since it can be used first and paid later. This U Mobile postpaid plan comes with three packages that offer high-speed 4G/5G networks with different quotas – U Postpaid 38, 68 and 98. Although each package offers different quotas, these three packages do not separate main data from hotspot data. In other words, the main data can still be used and shared as hotspot data.

Each package under the U Postpaid plan is seen to meet the different needs of users, just like the prepaid plan. For example, for those who want a 5G postpaid plan at a slightly lower price, U Postpaid 38 and 68 plans are the right plans for you. This is because these two packages offer fast data of 60 GB and 100 GB, Ultra Hotspot that can be shared from fast data and unlimited calls to all networks.

However, if you want internet with more data quota, U Postpaid 98 is a special package for you. This package offers you an internet quota of 1000GB (1TB) at the price of RM98/month. Therefore, you can definitely feel the maximum experience using 5G without having to worry about the problem of quickly running out of data. If you want to share this package with 6 other family lines, you can take advantage of the U FamilyShare program with an additional RM38/month for each line.

In order to experience a more optimal use of 5G, it is important that you use a device that supports 5G functions. So, U Mobile also offers U SaveMore and U PayLater programs, specifically for U Postpaid 68 and 98 package customers. Through these two programs, you can get discounted prices or interest-free installment payments for 5G devices offered by U Mobile. Not to be forgotten, through the U Postpaid 68 and 98 plans, you can enjoy free global roaming data of 15GB and free calls.
