WhatsApp is testing the feature of sending images in HD resolution

WhatsApp already supports file sharing of 2GB to facilitate the sharing of many pictures. Photos can be sent as media to get higher quality but there is no preview in the application to see them before downloading.

In the WhatsApp application beta version 23.11.0.76 for iOS and version 2.23.12.13 for Android, the test of sending pictures in HD quality is now performed. This feature will appear when the user tries to send a large size picture. Before sending the user will be given the choice of Standard quality or HD quality.

Each option has a resolution difference with Standard mode limited to a resolution of 1600 x 1052 pixels while in HD mode it is at a resolution of 4096 x 2692 pixels. This feature however still does not send the image at the original size. Images sent in HD mode will also have an “HD” label displayed in the application.

It is currently uncertain what effect the high quality media sending feature will have on the data and storage management settings. This feature is still in testing stage with no date when it will be rolled out to all users.
