10 Interesting And Disappointing Features On Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 have finally been officially launched in South Korea just now. With the fifth iteration of their foldable screen device, Samsung already understands what users of foldable screen devices want. This list of 10 interesting and disappointing things was created so that people can see if these two devices meet their needs.

ATTRACT

1. New design is thinner and lighter

Many complained that the screens of the Z Fold and Z Flip series could not be fully closed last year. Many worry that the small space between the screen in the closed position can enter dust or keys that can damage the screen. This year the folding mechanism of the Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 has been changed allowing it to be folded closely like devices released by Oppo, Honor and Vivo. In addition to no more open space, the device is now lighter solving another issue often heard about Fold devices that are said to be too heavy.

2. Useful Z Flip5 Window Flex Screen

The Z Flip5's external screen has now grown to 3.4″ with what is now called the Flex Window. On this screen, various large widgets can be displayed along with selected applications such as WhatsApp, Messages and YouTube. Easily see the weather forecast, daily calendar agenda, the number of user sites already running and reply to messages directly from the external screen. The device can still be used without having to open it all the time which will save time and more importantly the battery.

3. Powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chip

The Snapdragon 8 gen 2 chip for Galaxy is the most powerful chip for Android devices to date. All the devices using it so far gave the highest benchmark scores, the smoothest user experience, satisfactory gaming performance and the best battery life. We have not yet been able to perform benchmark tests on Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 but in initial tests it can be felt that the application runs more smoothly.

4. IPX8 Waterproof

The waterproof capability of both devices is still IPX8 which allows them to be immersed in water. It's a feature that's become commonplace on flagship devices but in the foldable screen device class its support is limited. For those who want the peace of mind of using the device outdoors, this waterproof capability is definitely sought after. We all know that if water enters the internal part of the device, the cost of repairing it is very high.

5. Support 4 Android Versions and 5 Years of Security

Samsung offers the best software support among Android manufacturers. On the Z Fold5 and Z Flip5, a four-version Android update guarantee and up to five years of security patches are provided. This is necessary because the current trend is to use smartphones for longer periods. No worries about devices getting hacked, data stolen and banking apps stopping working because security certificates have expired.

6. The Most Complete Software For Foldable Screen Devices

Samsung's strength in the foldable screen device segment lies in their software which is not only supported the longest but also offers the most complete features. One UI 5.1.1 based on Android comes with features such as Taskbar, Multi Window, Floating Windows and Flex Mode which are now also used by other manufacturers. But Samsung's software implementation is smoother and more mature. Software is important because without it, the user experience can be disrupted making the device feel like it's not worth owning.

7.Same Selling Price

The selling price of Z Fold5 starts from RM6799 a piece. On all three models offered in Malaysia, the selling price is the same as the Z Fold4. The current trend that we can see this year is that the prices of devices are getting more and more expensive. As for the Z Flip5, the selling price starts at RM4499, which is only between RM100-200 higher than the Flip4, which we feel is reasonable due to the large number of Flex Window users out there.

DISAPPOINTING

8. No Changes to the Camera System

The Z Fold4 and Z Flip5 camera systems are recycled without any changes to the sensor and lens size. This is disappointing as people generally want major changes to be made to new models. Samsung says the camera improvements are only done at the software level. Is this sufficient? We can only say yes or no after doing a full review later.

9. Charging System Still 25W

The battery also has the same capacity as the charging system is still 25W. This is disappointing because other manufacturers already offer faster charging on their mid-range devices that are sold at more affordable prices. Not only did Samsung not update the faster charging system but the charger was not included.

10. The Z Fold5 External Screen Ratio Is Still The Same

Earlier this year it appeared that the outer screen of the Z Fold5 will be expanded further to make it more similar to the screen ratio of the candybar device. Honor Magic Vs and Vivo X Fold2 both come with screen ratios that are easier to use for this type. Unlike the Z Flip5, there are no changes to the external screen of the Z Fold5 which we find disappointing.
