ASUS Expected to Release Cable Pinless Graphics Cards on a Large Scale Soon

During the COMPUTEX Taipei event in the middle of this year, ASUS showed off a prototype for a graphics card that does not use the traditional PCIe power plug used to conduct electricity to the component.

With this design, the PCIe power cable is no longer needed, and is replaced by a PCIe x1 power slot placed next to the PCIe 4.0 x16 slot. This slot is called GC_HPWR which is used specifically to power the graphics card. This PCIe slot is capable of supplying 600W of power to a graphics card, so it is expected to be able to be used with models such as the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090.

According to a report from Tom's Hardware, a Bilibili content creator named Eixa Studio has shown some details about this graphics card, saying that the probability is high that ASUS will start introducing graphics cards with this GC_HPWR technology in a big way around the fall, or next month. October this year.

Technically this is a good idea, but the biggest issue with this component is that it uses ASUS copyright technology through their Back To Future program, and will require not only a new graphics card, but also a new motherboard to use in the computer build.

This may not be a problem if you already have plans to build a new computer, but it is quite difficult for those who just want to upgrade their existing computer.

However, ASUS is expected to introduce a new series of graphics cards and motherboards in a few months.
