The record for the hottest average global temperature ever recorded was set last week according to data from the Japan Meteorological Agency. The temperature of 17.24 °C was recorded on July 7 surpassing the record of 17.23 °C recorded three days earlier.
Although the latest data from the Japan Meteorological Agency has not been fully analyzed by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), it is consistent with data collected by the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service.
This year a number of troubling new records have been set such as the highest temperatures in May and June and a 17% reduction in ice on the surface of the North Atlantic Ocean in winter. Measures taken to reduce global warming seem to have no effect.
In 2019, the highest concentration of carbon dioxide in the air was recorded while the temperature in Antarctica reached 18.3 °C which was also the highest ever recorded.
