Bluetooth Unknown Object Tracker Detect Feature Enabled On Android Devices

 


When object trackers like the Apple AirTag and Samsung SmartTag were launched they were seen as must-have devices to make it easier to track lost items. It can provide accurate location complete with UWB function and can be sounded to make it easier to find. But there is a dark side where it is used to spy and commit the crime of robbery.



Today Google activated the feature of detecting unknown bluetooth object trackers on Android devices. It can provide notifications when detecting an unknown object tracker nearby. When tracked, users can see who owns the tracker and will be given steps to deactivate it. To use this feature the device should be running at least Android 6.0+ and have a cellular connection.



There is also a manual detection mode for those who. want to see if there is an object tracker near them. This feature can also track AirTag because it was developed in collaboration with Apple. To use it go to Settings → Safety & emergency → Unknown tracker alerts and press instead of Scan.



Google also announced a new Find My Device feature that can track various objects such as bluetooth headphones, luggage and so on which was announced during Google I/O will be delayed until Apple activates their security feature on iOS.
