Brutman Labs Website Powered by a 39-Year-Old IBM PCjr Computer

While the world is moving forward with more advanced, powerful and efficient computing technology, there is still a subset of tech enthusiasts who use the computers of yesteryear as proof that ancient technology is not necessarily obsolete.

The Brutman Labs website is a website that features various tutorials and interesting information related to the use of old computer technology and equipment, and the website, BrutmanLabs.org recently released a new announcement saying that it has been operating with a non-stop uptime of 2,500 hours, equivalent to about 104 days without having to restart the server machine.

What is more interesting is that the computer used as the server machine of this website is an IBM PCjr launched in 1984, making the computer 39 years old. This IBM PCjr is powered by a NEC V20 processing chip, 734KB RAM memory, with 240GB SATA SSD storage connected using an IDE adapter.

To connect this computer to the internet, Michael Brutman uses mTCP overlay software which he configured himself, and which anyone can use if they want to do the same with their old computer.

This computer also uses the DOS operating system, one of the earliest operating systems in the world created in 1981. The Brutman Labs website is designed to resemble most websites developed in the early 1990s, and does not consume so many resources.
