Canalys has now released data for the smartphone industry for the three months of April, May and June, showing that the global smartphone market contracted by 10% compared to before.
Samsung continues to lead the market with a 21% share, followed by Apple in second place with a 17% share. Xiaomi and Oppo each follow closely behind.
Also interesting is that on the fifth ladder is a new brand group, which is Transsion. This transition currently holds a 9% market share globally. Among the brands under Transsion are Tecno, Infinix, and iTel.
Transsion's development is seen to be very active in developing countries - not to mention their product offerings with low and mid-range specifications, at competitive prices. In Malaysia itself, Tecno and Infinix are quite active in the introduction of their respective devices.
Could it be that in the coming months, Transsion will give competition to Oppo which is ranked 4th with a 10% share?
