First Generation iPhone Auctioned At Almost RM900,000

The iPhone went on sale 16 years ago and it is responsible for changing the world of mobile phone design. Instead of a physical device, we now live in a touch screen world. Because of its impact on smartphone technology, the value of the first generation iPhone is now skyrocketing.

Recently a first generation iPhone with 4GB storage was auctioned at a price of $190,372.80 (~RM865,000) via the LCG Auctions site last Sunday. It has never been opened and is still in the original packaging. This makes it the most expensive first generation iPhone ever auctioned with the previous record being $63,356 for a first generation iPhone with 8GB of storage.

The 4GB model is auctioned at a higher price because it is produced in lower quantities thus making it a more difficult model to purchase. When it went on sale in 2007, the iPhone 4G sold for $499 apiece. In 16 years, the price of this model increased almost 382 times.
