Geely And Renault Collaborate To Develop New Hybrid Engines - To Be Used By Proton And Volvo

Geely Holding Group and Renault Group announced a collaboration to develop a new company that will develop a new generation of hybrid engines for their vehicles. Through this collaboration, the company with a 50:50 stake will produce a hybrid engine that will meet up to 80% of ICE engine needs in the future.

The new, yet-to-be-named company will be based in the UK. Geely and Renault will transfer all their engine design patents to this entity to enable the development of new generation engines that are also capable of using hydrogen and synthetic fuel.

When produced, vehicles under the Renault Group brand, Geely Auto, Volvo Cars, Proton, Nissan, Mitsubishi Motors Company, and PUNCH Torino will use it. For Proton this will open a new lebaran for their motoring era. This year on the Proton X90, a hybrid engine with the help of an electric motor was offered. Proton has confirmed that it will produce one new energy vehicle (NEV) every year starting in 2023.
