Google AR Device Operating System Development Lead Resigns

Development of the operating system for Google's AR headset has resigned. Mark Lucovsky who led the development of the XR and AR operating system announced his resignation via Twitter.

Lucovsky joined Google in 2021 after leading the Oculus VR division at Meta. He moved to Google after Meta stopped developing their own operating system and maintained the use of Google's operating system.

According to Lucovsky the decision to resign was taken due to changes in AR leadership and Google's unstable commitment and vision lately. Among the things that Google has done is to cancel their smart glasses.

Google will develop the operating system that will be used by Samsung's AR headset in collaboration with Qualcomm. The launch of this set of ships has reportedly been delayed by six months due to the launch of the Apple Vision Pro next year.
