Kaspersky is now sharing data, stating that Malaysia is one of the countries with the highest rate of phishing attacks in the Southeast Asian region. Kaspersky stated that in 2022 alone, their system has prevented more than 8,267,013 phishing attacks involving users in Malaysia through the Kaspersky Anti-Phishing System software.
Most phishing attacks are carried out via email. These attacks usually mimic the design of popular sites that make users unwittingly enter information such as passwords - which are then misused for various purposes.
According to Cybersecurity Malaysia, around 4741 cyber attacks were reported in 2022. In addition, the loss figure has been recorded as reaching RM27 million as of February 2023.
Kaspersky encourages users to identify how this phishing operates, including reporting received attacks. Users are also encouraged to use security and antivirus software to continue to protect themselves from becoming victims.
